Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was in Israel. She urged “prudent restraint” against the backdrop of Iran’s Operation True Promise against the occupying regime in retaliation for its April 1 bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
Baerbock on Wednesday said she had made clear during her talks with Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, and others that West Asia must not get into a perilous situation.
“The region must not slide into a situation whose outcome is completely unpredictable,” she told reporters.
“Everyone must now act prudently and responsibly. I am not talking about giving in. I am talking about prudent restraint,” Baerbock said, before departing Israel for a Group of Seven (G7) meeting where she said she would discuss new sanctions against Iran.
The G7 foreign ministers gathered on the Italian island of Capri later in the day. The group reiterated support for Israel.
