The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday gave a unanimous opinion on the presidential reference against the handing of former prime minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (ZAB) and stated that he had not been given a fair trial.
The apex court stated in its opinion that the act of the Lahore High Court (LHC) was not in accordance with basic human rights in the Bhutto case.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, while giving a unanimous opinion, said that the requirements of a fair trial had not been met in the Bhutto case.
He also said that ZAB’s sentence was not according to the law and Constitution, adding that a detailed decision would be issued later.
A nine-member SC bench unanimously gave its opinion in the presidential reference. The questions asked in the reference were also answered.
